Remember that “little” group called Team Shrinking Jeans? You know, our 15 members strong coalition of women who have committed to running a half marathon in San Diego in June while also raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society? The team that LLS has announced as their largest Virtual Team in Training group?
That group?
The members of Team Shrinking Jeans began their official training runs this weekend- woot, woot!
As we train our bodies for the physical race (18 weeks of training runs!), we will also be raising a good chunk of money ($44,000 to be exact) for theLeukemia & Lymphoma Society (also referred to as LLS). LLS is a wonderful organization to support- most of us have been touched by cancer in some form or fashion, whether it be a family member, friend, co-worker, or acquaintance.
Over the next 18 weeks, we are going to need your support, encouragement, and motivation to keep going.
We are also asking for your help in raising 44 Big Gees : ).
Why donate?
- The need is critical: An estimated 912,938 people in the United States are living with, or are in remission from, leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma or myeloma.
- Every four minutes, someone new is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies.
- Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children under the age of 20. Lymphomas are the most common blood cancers and incidence increases with age. The survival rate for myeloma is only 37.1 percent.
