The May Monday Project: Go Ahead, Let It Allllll Go… | The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

Remember that Calgon commercial with the slogan, “Calgon, take me away….”? Or better yet, Kramer’s and the Costanza’s “Serenity now”?

Spring is all about renewal, rebirth and rejuvenation. It’s about spring cleaning and organizing and fresh starts. Opening up the windows, getting de-winterized and cleaning house. That’s why for this month’s Monday Project, we’re going to clean a little “inner” house. We’re going to breathe deep and “Serenity Now” ourselves. Because health isn’t just about the outside of us, it’s about the inside too. It’s about the big picture. Inside, outside, around us, all of it. Because let’s face it, if you’re stressed out, it has such a profound effect on your health, inside and out. You could be sabotaging your efforts right now!

For instance, stress leads to the following (but is not limited to)

  • high cortisol levels, which leads to lower metabolism
  • lack of sleep
  • possible indulgence in wine/slash/comfort foods and fast food
  • fat storage, especially in the abdominal area
  • and, it can alter your blood sugar levels and make you a crabby-ass, but we already know that crabby-ass-ness comes with stress

But it messes with you and all your chemicals! And honestly, who needs any of that? I sure don’t. Lately, I have become all about trying to keep only positive people around me, minimalizing my possessions and cleansing my soul, and although it’s not always easy, it’s a lot less stressful and it just plain feels good.

So this month, we’re going to focus on letting something go or fixing something that’s stressing us out.

For instance, got a relationship that needs fixin? Be the bigger person, it’s ok! Got anger in your body at something? Let it go. Air it out and move on. Have you been holding something in for months and months and months, maybe years? Are you resentful about something that you can’t change? Go ahead. Accept it. Are you resentful about something you can change? Take steps to change it.

In fact, even if it’s just a plain old hot mess somewhere in your house, clean it! Been needing a spiritual cleansing? Go to confession or a retreat or a therapy session. Been wanting to get organized with food planning, finances, coupons, etc..? Get to it. Got a toxic friend? Release him or her. (I have done this recently, it’s very freeing.)  Whatever it is that’s plaguing you, it’s time to let it go. Anything.

These terrible things that we hold in and obsess over and get angry about really have a very big impact on our health because it’s a domino effect. It leads to self-sabotage in every which way. It’s hard enough to stay healthy without all these outside factors, so just close your eyes, think about that thing you just want to say goodbye to, whatever it is, and wave sayanora! It’s time. You know you’ve been looking for an excuse to do this and wanting to do this.

And writing it out is so very therapeutic. That’s why we’re all bloggers, after all. We need a release! Now, feel free to change names to protect the innocent, or be as vague or detailed as you want, pictures/no pictures, etc. In fact, if there are a few things you’re cleansing, feel free to link up a couple of times this month if you want! But whatever it is, let it go, stop the madness, release the stress, so you can become one with yourself.

Our Monday Projects which were weekly, have gone monthly. Now, you can check in on Fridays throughout the month of May when I will repost the link-up each Friday for the current month’s project, so you can do the project this month at your leisure!  Just post about what you’ve let go, leave the link and go visit everyone and see what they’ve done. Everyone always has a great new view on something and I always get great ideas from other people’s Monday Project posts.

So have a wonderful, cleansing and fulfilling May! Hope to see you around the link-up!
