Let me tell you, this week I was a little nervous. We went out of town and there may have been some burgers, amazing Thai food and a mimosa brunch buffet involved. BUT, I wasn’t really nervous at all, because I maintained self-control. When you’re out of town, it’s easy to throw caution to the wind, and you know, sometimes you really have to. But this wasn’t a ‘vacation’ or a cause for celebration, just a quick weekend out of town, so I did my best to keep my wits about me and make good choices.

You see, I love food. I love it so much. Sure, I try to look at it as fuel for my body to function and recover from workouts, but it’s so hard when it tastes so good. You know what I mean, right? When I’m at home, there isn’t as much of a struggle. I don’t buy crap food, so I’m not tempted by it (read: Doritos, ice cream, Oreos, etc.), but when I go out of town, or even just out to eat, my taste-buds wake up and are all like HEY, we’re not in Kansas anymore….(only I don’t live in Kansas, anyway).

Okay, so my point is that when I go out to eat, I still allow myself to enjoy the pleasure of food. I order the curry and Thai custard with jasmine rice. I have a kids burger with the salad bar, I eat a bad ass omelet and a few petit fours. Yes, I still enjoy enjoying food. I just do it less, on a much smaller scale (pun intended!).

You can do it too, and you should.

I know in the beginning I was nervous around food. REALLY! I would try to avoid situations where I knew “off-limits” things would be served because I had NO self-control. But as time has passed, I’ve realized the only way to do this is to make it a lifestyle. Yeah, I know you’ve heard it before, and it’s so true.

This is not a diet. THIS IS YOUR LIFE.

Accept it and you’ll be so much happier. Trust me.

Do not deny yourself either. If you want something, have it. Just have 1/4 of what you’d normally have. Just have a bite, or a taste of that dessert. If you get in the habit of denying yourself everything, one day your going to explode and EAT everything. Trust me, I’ve been there, and it’s not pretty.

With all that being said, realize that I am not perfect. Sometimes I go on vacation and gain 6 pounds, too. GAH. Then I spend then next month busting my ass to get back to where I was. Life just happens, and you have to pick up and move on.

I am happy to report that because of the life I’m choosing to live (remember, it’s not a diet!), the miles I accumulated, the sweat I poured, and the 800 ounces of water I drank this week, I am down:

1 POUND!

Yay for me!
