Sisterhood Virtual 5K – The Shrinking Jeans of Christy

Yesterday morning, I got up early (okay, not really early, but just pretend with me okay?) and jumped on Twitter so I could cheer on my fellow Sisters running in the Disney FULL Marathon. Yes those crazy girls, Christie, Brooke, and Kirsten (she already has a race recap up, too!) were running 26.2 miles at Disney World! And Christie was even wearing a tutu! I was so happy to see that Audrey was there giving us the play-by-play on Twitter. I sat and watched as each of those three amazing women crossed the finish line and became first time marathoners. It was amazing. Truly. I am so extremely proud of what they have accomplished. It’s HUGE and profound and they deserve a freaking medal. Oh wait, they did get a medal. My bad.

Anyways….

Last year I ran the Sisterhood Virtual 5K with April and Amanda and it was awesome. And we wore awesome knee high socks. It was the first time I’d ever run that far and it seemed SO FAR. Since then, I’ve run hundreds of miles and even a 1/2 marathon. Crazy!

Yesterday I laced up my shoes and hit the road for a homegrown 5K (meaning I didn’t have one near me to sign up for, so I made up my own) with my friend Marlena and my son BJ. We had to dodge some mud and puddles, but it was fun.

It was the first time I’ve really run in over 2 months. For real.

I took a break because the tendinitis in my foot was flaring up back in October. Then I missed the San Antonio RnR 1/2, and then I was in a funk. Well, I’m happy to say that I’m out of the funk. I love running as much as I ever did. Maybe even more.

Yes, that first mile sucks ass every.single.time. But once I push through it, I’m free. FREE and flying (even if I do have to take lots and lots of walk breaks, yo). It’s amazing.

If you’re on the fence about running, please please please give it a try. Yes, the first mile is the hardest, and it may take you a long time to get past the first mile, but when you do…..WOW.
