Self Workout in the Park | The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

With the return of spring comes the return of an exciting fitness event – SELF Magazine’s Workout in the Park! There are three events in San Francisco (May 5), New York (May 12) and Chicago (June 2).

Local fitness fans and I are invited to join Dolvett Quince (trainer on The Biggest Loser) at Grant Park in Chicago for a day of fun, fitness and freebies. I went to this event last year not knowing what to expect. I was covering it for Shrinking Jeans and feeling a little intimidated before I got there. It was my first press event for them. That feeling lasted a very short time. From my VIP pass to meeting Alison Sweeney, it couldn’t have been a more fun and exciting day.

The four hour event seemed to fly by. There is every kind of workout you can think of to try. Everything from beginner to truly advanced. Pilates, zumba, kickboxing, yoga, you name it, you’ll probably find it there. Some classes you have to sign up for and you should do that first thing when you get there. Some of them fill up very fast.

There are all kinds of vendors giving out lots of freebies. There are lots of things to buy too. You get a shopping bag when you walk in the gate and I promise you it will be full when you leave. My favorite freebie last year was an insulated glass with a lid and straw. You know the kind that doesn’t sweat on the outside, but still keeps your drink really cold. I think I have used it every day since I got it.

So…here’s the scoop on registering. Go to www.selfworkoutinthepark.com and click on the city you want to attend. There you can sign up and check out all the classes that are going to be at your location. The cost is $20. and that includes a one year subscription to Self. If you already have a subscription, they will extend it for another year.

Now, below you will find a picture of Ali Sweeney and I at last years event. I am working on making that picture this year be of me and Dolvett. I have been emailing back and forth with one of the PR people for the event. The girl I teach with suggested that he have his shirt off. I’ll just be happy if I can get the interview and not drool all over myself while I try to talk. Not to say that having his shirt off isn’t a good idea. I could handle that.

All kidding aside, this is an awesome event that I highly recommend. If you are coming to the Chicago event, let me know and we can try to meet up. We could even take the train in together. Hope to see you there!
