How Do I Love Me?

0

Do you love yourself? I mean really truly love yourself. Do you accept yourself as you are, flaws and all? Ask yourself the following questions.

Do I lovingly accept myself as I am right now? Do I appreciate all the beauty that makes me who I am? Do I regularly give thanks for all of my blessings? Do I trust in my ability to take care of myself? Do I not criticize myself? Do I not criticize others? Do I forgive myself when I make a mistake? Do I be kind to others, without sacrificing my own needs? Do I take responsibility for my life?

Do I love myself to the best of my ability?

How did you do? I would love to be able to say that I answered yes to every question, but I couldn’t. At least not if I am going to be totally honest with myself. As I was doing some research for this post, I found a website that can help you become the kind of person who could answer yes to all those questions.

I know that I am coming late to the party on this one, but did you know that January is Self Love Month? January is registered as Self-Love Month in the National Special Events Registry and Chase’s Directory of Events. Self Love month was created to bring more awareness of the importance of developing this important asset for a successful and happy life.

How Do I Love Me? Let Me Count the Ways, is a book written by Daylle Deanna Schwartz, a self-empowerment counselor, speaker, and author of 13 popular books. There is an entire website based on the contents of the book. They give you the tools and the encouragement to get started on this new journey of self love. The really awesome thing is that you can download the book for free.

You can take this very simple pledge….“I commit to do my best to do something loving for myself, however big or small, for the next 31 days.” Isn’t that a perfect gift to give to yourself? The good news is that we haven’t missed anything. You can start this anytime you want. The choice of what 31 days is yours.

A feeling of self love and self worth can make a big difference in how you feel about your life. I think it can make a big difference in how you view yourself and how you deal with this health and fitness journey we are on. If you truly love yourself, aren’t you going to want to do everything you can to be the best you that you can be?

So, who wants to give this a try with me? There are no magic pills that will accomplish this for you. We have to do the work. Go and check out the website. Download the book, if you want. So far, it all makes a lot of sense to me. I hope it does to you, too.

All research for this post was done at the How Do I Love Me website.

I’m a 60 year old wife, mom and grammy. I am the ‘Older Sister’ around here! I’ve been married to my wonderful husband for 41 years and we have four daughters and four grandchildren. I’ve been chosen to be the mature voice of the Sisterhood and I couldn’t be more excited. My passions are my family, photography, Notre Dame football, Chicago Cubs baseball and my new found enthusiasm for fitness and weight loss. In a moment of crazy, I signed up to walk the 2013 Indianapolis Mini Marathon and believe it or not, I survived!
