Add Some Wow To Your Walk – The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

I walk. I really like to walk. I have been walking for years. I’ve walked 5k’s and half marathons. I’ve walked for fun. I’ve walked for exercise and I’ve walked to get from one place to the other. But, I didn’t really realize until recently that you can really add some wow to your walk and make it a real heart pumping cardio workout.

I kept seeing magazine articles and online posts about adding some wow to your walk. I finally started reading about it and I was impressed. You have to get past the fact that some people might think you are a little weird. You just might have to walk somewhere that is a little out of the way until you get used to it yourself.

Here are some of my favorite walk additions…..

1. Intervals! Walk for two minutes and then speed it up to a fast walk for one minute. Do this 12 times.

2. Focus on drawing your abs in toward your spine. Try to maintain the contraction throughout your walk, but don’t hold your breath.

3. Every few minutes, add a minute of lunges while you walk.

4. Grab some hand weights and some tricep curls as you walk.

5. Every time you pass a park bench or something that height, do a few push ups against it.

6. Every few minutes, stop and do ten squats.

7. Take a resistance band with you and every few minutes do ten overhead pulls.

8. Every few minutes, stop and do 20 toe touches. Spread your arms out and twist to touch the opposite hand to the opposite toe.

9. Add some leg circles every now and then. Just stop, stand with your feet hip width apart and raise one leg and do 20 leg circles. Repeat on the other side.

10. Last, but not least, remember to keep those arms pumping.

Here’s hoping you can give some of these a try. Once you get past the “feeling goofy” part, it’s a pretty good workout.
