So….there are four days left in 2013. It’s that time of year when we reassess what we’ve done this year and what we will change next year. Every year, I set the same goal as the year before. I will lose weight and get in shape. Every year, I get a little closer to that goal.

I’ve kind of changed my perspective for next year. I saw this video and it really made me think. Maybe how I see myself isn’t like what other people see. Maybe I am way to hard on myself.

I came across this list of ten steps to a positive body image. Now, I had two things that got me thinking. These are pretty awesome!

What if I have been beating myself up year after year when I was already pretty awesome? Don’t get me wrong. I still have every intention of keeping the goals that I set for myself each year. I am making slow and steady process and I know that is how I am going to keep the weight off. I didn’t put the weight on overnight and it won’t come off overnight either.

I keep reading these ten steps. I think that if I can tackle #4 and #6, I’ll have an amazing start to 2014. What about you? Are there steps here that you think could help you?

Here’s what I think. If we all make that top 10 list of things we like about ourselves like it says in #2 and keep it where we can see it everyday, maybe we can begin to see ourselves in a new light. Maybe we can see ourselves as the second sketch instead of the first sketch. Wouldn’t that be a refreshing change?

I think that 2014 can the year that we can learn to be good to ourselves. We can focus on the positive and not the negative. Think of what a different feeling that could be.

The older I get, the more I believe that the only person who is responsible for making me happy is me. It has taken me a long time to get to this point in my life, but it’s a great feeling. Don’t let it take you 59 years to be good to you. You deserve the effort now. We all do!
