Closing out the summer: Random Sunday Thoughts

0

Pardon me, has anyone seen my summer? She left with such haste and so so much unfinished business! How rude! I would like her located ASAP and returned to me. What happened to my Summer Bucket List?! I think it is fair to say that I am going to try to now convert it into my Fall Bucket List.

Now that everyone is in full back-to-school mode, have you had a chance to reflect on your summer? I have always said that once you graduate from school and are an adult in the working world, there is no such thing as summer. A part of me still feels that way. Summer is just one more reminder that we are not kids anymore. We still have responsibilities of work and paying bills, regardless of the season.

At the same time, there is no denying that the pace of life just seems to slow down a bit in the summer, regardless of your age or whether you are in the “grown up/working world.”

I will warn you that I am writing this post late at night and feeling a little melancholy. I feel off the wagon this summer in many ways. Diet. Exercise. Running. Spirituality. Many ways. In that sense, I am ready to put it in the rear view mirror and recommit to promises I have made to myself.

One thing that I was reminded of this summer was the importance of friendships. From  renewing friendships at my college reunion in June to catching up with old friends just earlier tonight, I am reminded how much these relationships are as vital to my health and well being as counting calories or taking vitamins.  At least once a month, my two best friends and I get on the phone for a “conference call” and talk for hours. It is stuff like that that keeps me sane.

So, how was YOUR summer? Did you do anything fun? Anything outrageous? Something you’re proud of? We would love to hear about it in the comments!

If you fell short of your goals, promise me you will not give up on them. Just promise. Dust yourself off and keep those beautiful eyes of yours looking forward. We’ve got this.
