At one time or another, we all have our own little excuses why we can’t workout or stick to a diet or this or that. It’s just human nature, I think. But, if we are ever going to stay on track. we have to be realistic about our goals and our plans.

I read an article at Business Insider UK of all places. I’m not even sure how I got there, but it was a great article. It was geared toward men, but it is helpful for the ladies too. It was called “6 Truths About Exercising That No One Wants To Hear”.

Would you like to know the six truths? Well, here they are……

1. You must commit for the long term.
The goal is not to lose the biggest amount of weight in the shortest amount of time. The goal is to take it off slowly and keep it off. If you commit to the long term, it might take a little longer, but you are more apt to keep it off and have it become a lifestyle.

2. You need a schedule.
You know the saying “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail”? Boy, is that one true. I have found that if I just get up a little earlier in the morning, I can get my workout in before the day starts. If I do that, there are no need for excuses about why I can’t later. If I get in a walk or something later in the day, that’s gravy.

3. Not all exercises are equal.
I love to walk, but that isn’t going to get rid of the saggy, baggy stuff that is hanging from my upper arm. That is going to require weight training. There is no one exercise that is going to cure all your problems.

4. You need to start slow.
According to the article, “It’s great to push yourself, but the biggest mistake that most people make is not building a foundation of strength. Everyone wants to jump in and max out with a weight that is “hard.” That’s exactly the wrong way to do it. Your workouts should be easy in the beginning.”

5. You should make slow progress.
Don’t start out with a ten pound weight. Start with a three or five pound weight and work your way up to an eight or ten and so on. If you start out too hard, you are only going to burn yourself out and not want to continue and where does that get you?

6. You should keep a record.
I think this might be one of the most important things I do. I keep track of my weight, measurements and workouts. I love in the article when they say “What gets measured, gets managed.” How very true. If you don’t keep track, try it. All you need is a little notebook and a pencil. I swear by it!

So, there you go! 6 Truths About Exercising That No One Wants To Hear. I would go read the whole article, if I was you. It gives a lot more detail. I really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it. I hope this gives you some solid ideas.

Enjoy the weekend!
