8 Ways to Feed Your Wanderlust | The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

Have you ever had the feeling that you need time to wander, travel, get away? A lot of people call it wanderlust; a chance to escape the normalcy of your life. Some people take vacations yearly that help feed that wanderlust feeling, but I’m talking about something a bit different. A chance to be off by yourself to think about life as you wish it were instead of what it really is. A chance to wander the world, city, country and be able to escape the troubles of your life. Maybe it’s a mid-life crisis? Whatever you call it, I think there comes a time when taking a break from your normal day-to-day to wander a bit is good.

I realize most of us just can’t pick up and go on a month long trip where you have no responsibilities and no one else to take care for. A trip where we can just wander around the country and planet any where we want to go. I realize that we live in the real world and we can’t just escape for a long period of time. There are jobs to go do, bills to pay, people/animals to take care of; things that HAVE TO BE DONE EVERY D&MN DAY!! Why, oh why, did we want to be grown up so darned bad???  So what is the solution to this wanderlust desire? How can we get through this feeling of unrest and uneasiness in our life? How can we find that happy place and feel good in our day to day life again?

Well, I definitely don’t have all the answers, but here are 8 Ways to Feed Your Wanderlust that might help us escape a little bit of the normal day to day stuff that bogs us down!

  • Take a day and get out in nature. Don’t take anyone with you except YOU and YOUR THOUGHTS!! Go hiking, go to the lake, go to the trails, get in the car and drive without a plan in mind, for a few hours (and leave the radio off)! I’m a big stickler on making sure you have some way of contacting people in case of an emergency, so I would say to bring your phone with you in case you need it, but leave it off till it’s needed! We are easily distracted by all those pings that constantly go off, so you don’t need that.
  • Start the day with a yoga session! Yoga helps clear your mind and helps make your body stronger, too.
  • Read a relaxing book, just for fun! A book that is mindless, that doesn’t teach you something or help you do something. A book that would be good for the beach!
  • Aw….the beach!! Now, that’s a great place to escape to if you have one nearby!
  • Get together with a friend and just sit and relax and talk about life! You can dream together of escaping your hum-drum!

  • Go someplace you’ve never been before in your own community! I live in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and there are so many places I’ve never been in the nearly 20 years we’ve lived here. Find a new adventure in your own area.
  • Help someone else that has a need. Sometimes all it takes to get us out of our funk is to help someone that has it worse than we do. There is always someone that needs help and that always makes me feel better.
  • Sit outside in the sun and day dream like we did when we were kids and do nothing. Watch the clouds roll by. Watch the birds. Enjoy the peace!

Whether you are going through a period in your life where things are going just the way you always wanted, or they couldn’t get much worse and you are ready to escape every aspect of your life, I truly believe that having some time to just be quiet and still will be good for you. It heals your body, your mind, and your soul! Take some time this week and be refreshed and revitalized.

I’m not saying this will solve all your problems but maybe, just maybe, you will come back to reality and be in a better state of mind so you can better deal with your life in a better way.

xoxoxo,

Ann
