As the co-founder of the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans, my goal when this site started back in 2008 was to inspire and motivate women to take control of their weight so they could live healthier lives. I had previously lost a significant amount of weight, and remembered how long and lonely the journey was without support. In my mind, weight loss would be more bearable if it were a team effort.
In 2008, I had a infant daughter + a four year-old, and was once again facing the arduous journey of weight loss. This time though, it would be different because I had INSPIRATION, I had the women of the Sisterhood from all over the world cheering me on, lifting me up, and celebrating my victories with me, and these same women were also looking to me to be their INSPIRATION.
I was empowering women who were in turn empowering me. Full circle.

I’m happy to say that I lost the weight I was trying to lose so many years ago, and since then tens of thousands of women from all walks of life and every corner of the globe have come together to lose weight with the Sisterhood. And it’s not just about weight anymore…we’ve grown and changed and inspired women to take up running, to lift weights, to be strong, to eat healthy, and to be the absolute best they can be.
So in case you’re wondering who inspires me?
You are my inspiration.
Every. Single. Day. YOU inspire me to go out for that run, to say no that second plate of nachos, and to drink that last 8 ounces of water even when my eyeballs are floating. You inspire me to keep motivating other women…to keep motivating YOU.
Full circle. A Sisterhood. A team, not unlike the strong group of women who make up Team SCA racing around the world in the Volvo Ocean Race. The race lasts for nine months, covering 39,379 nautical miles (almost two laps around the equator). Talk about an arduous journey.
