Thursday Threes:: If I Would Have Known…

[ 15 ] 05/27/2010 |

Do you ever wish you could go back and tell your past self things that you now know? Jump in your time-traveling machine, zip back to 1988, and tell yourself that your bangs really do NOT need to be 8 inches high? Or that layering two pairs of socks and tight-rolling your jeans will NEVER be cool?

True, if we hadn’t gone through everything we have in our lives, we would probably not be the people we are today, but I know everyone has a few little things they would do differently if they were given the chance.

*I wish that I would have stuck with athletics longer than 7th grade. I was in gymnastics and dance in the early years, then volleyball and basketball through early junior high. In 7th grade, I moved from Billings to Salt Lake City and was uber-shy and didn’t pursue activities after that. This is huge for me. I hope my kids don’t make the same mistake. Actually, I tried out for cheerleading TWICE in high school, but once again, my shyness got the best of me and I choked. Yeah, I’m cool like that.

*I wish that I could tell my pregnant self (selves) that it really is NOT okay to eat everything you want for 9 months. The weight does not fall off immediately after giving birth, nor make for a cute pregnancy. I always wanted one pregnancy where I was one of those totally cute preggo girls, you know, the kind where they keep their same, fit bodies, only have the most adorable little sticky-out bellies. If I would have known that getting the weight off would be a huge life struggle, I would have changed my mindset, fast.

*I would tell my younger self that it’s okay to be comfortable with who you are. Don’t let opportunities slip by because you are afraid of failing or what other people may think. You are given one life, live it, and live it to your fullest potential!

I have room in my time-traveling machine for a few more, so hop on in! What are you going to tell YOUR past self?

BRILLIANT!!! I have been in this mindset for a while….

*I would not let myself live on bread & water no matter how short the stint was in 9th grade! 30# in 30 days was so not cool!

*I would not listen to ANYONE else & would wear that 2 piece bikini when I weighed 100# & hated my body even then

*I would not have insisted on dieting when I was @100# –I would have appreciated that itty bitty body :)

I completely agree that we wouldn't be who we are w/o our struggles but these are little things that would have made life so much easier!! both then & now :)

Crap, you mean pegged legged jeans *aren't* cool anymore? Damn!

    Let's see:
*I would have told my college self that just because your boyfriend got an inheritance and is really nice, it doesn't mean that you can go out to eat every night.
*I would tell me post-college self that just because you went out to eat every night, you don't have to make it a life-long habit.
*I would tell my high school self that “boys are bad, mmmmkay.”

The word verification box on your blog is messed up and I can't comment, so I will copy it to here:

Do you ever go and skate now, just for fun? Even if you couldn't do it professionally, it could be a great de-stresser! :)

    1) I would go back to September and tell myself to keep going and stay on track, I would probably be at my goal by now

    2) I would go back to the last time I saw my Mom and hug her extra hard and be nicer to her

    3) I would have kept playing piano

I've shared my Thursday Threes at my blog, but I'll share them here, too.

I have a few “If I Would Have Known”s to spill:

    * If I would’ve known I’d be 50-60 pounds overweight in my 30’s, I wouldn’t have started the bad habit of drinking pop and eating fast food back in high school.

    * If I would’ve known that sports were actually fun, I would have joined in and not let fear get in the way.

    * If I would’ve known what credit was really all about, I wouldn’t have ruined my when I first got married. Then, maybe I would be living in a home of my own.

Plenty of regrets, but today I will not be regretful. Instead, I will

    - move this body to get it to a healthy more appealing state.

    - move this body some more to have some fun with my kiddos playing softball, soccer, football, and whatever sports they will not be embarrassed to play with their momma!

    - continue paying my bills and current debt so that my credit will continue to get better. Then maybe, I’ll work up enough nerve to apply for a home loan.

Have a blessed day! I’m off to the oral surgeon where my hubby is having some teeth cut out. Ouch!!

Melissa, you and I would be talking alot about the same things to our time traveling self….here are some of mine…

**You can't start your first pregnancy weighing in at 124 and end it weighing at 170 and expect to “be skinny again” over-night.
**You can't sit around on your butt (literally) for 13 years trying to get pregnant and not expect to come out of your second pregnancy skinny, either! Especially when you weigh close to 200 lbs. when you finally do get pregnant!
**You have to “move your body” to have a healthy, fit body! and you can't sit around drinking Cokes and eating fast food and expect ANYTHING good to come from it!

I remember looking at 'fluffy' ladies and saying “How can they let themselves get that way!!” and thinking that I NEVER would. I want to go back there and first, kick my self in the pants for being such a critical bitch and second, reinforce the mindset that I would NEVER do that and actually sticking to it.

You were totally talking about me with the bangs ,weren't you? :)

I started my first pregnancy at 140 and ended it at 199! Kind of sad that I
