[ 58 ] 12/01/2010 |

The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans Holiday Hoedown ChallengeHowdy y’all! We hope you had a very happy Thanksgiving surrounded by family and friends and healthy traditions! Maybe a little calf roping? No? And what’s that? You ate too much pie and your jeans are too tight? Well don’t worry, we can cure what ails you here at the Sisterhood!

It’s time to mosey on over to your scales and take a gander at that there number. Did it go up a little, or did you manage to lose during the most eatiest week of the year? If you lost, then kiss my grits!! Congratulations! If you didn’t lose, don’t worry too much. Just put it behind you, (not on your behind) and look forward. Today is a new day and you can and most definitely will get back on track!

So go ahead blog about your week. Tell us everything, we love juicy details, plus it’s good for posterity and your posterior if you can look back and recall how you did. Link up below after you fill in the weigh-in form!

Fitness & Non-Fitness Challenges for the Week!

I want you to look at the calendar! Today is December 1st. Now don’t get all sweaty and panicky thinking about shopping days until Christmas and all that stuff. I want you to visualize yourself on December 31: lighter, happier, more in control. You’ll be stepping into a brand new year with a huge jump on your resolution to lose weight and get fit because you are participating in this challenge. Isn’t that an awesome feeling? Sure, this might not be your banner month for huge losses, but by simply being aware and thinking about your teammates, you’re bound to make better choices. You can do this!! For your non-fitness challenge, we want you to outline 3 things you’re going to do to stay on track this month. Add them to your weigh-in post, or post about them separately. Share them with your teammates, and keep each other honest!

For your Fitness challenge this week, we are going to continue with the minutes, but we’re going to encourage you, okay goad you into trying something new! Maybe Zumba? I mean, you know it looks fun, so stop being so self-conscious and get out there and try it! Lisa LOVES it!

Giveaway!

This week we have a YEEE-HAW of a giveaway for you fine shrinkers! The folks at Takeya have ponied up some sweet glass water bottles for our giveaway this week. Yes, that means two people who check-in this week will randomly be selected to win!

These Takeya glass water bottles are nice! Melissa and I both received bottles to review, and I have to say that I’m pretty impressed. I was a little worried that it would be hazardous being glass and all, but it’s surrounded by a nice silicon cover that keeps it safe; and because it’s glass, you don’t have to worry about toxic chemicals from plastic bottles leaching into your water! Both the bottle and silicone cover are dishwasher safe, and the lid is so easy to screw on and off. Both of us love our Takeya water bottles, and two lucky winners will, too!

Here’s what you’ve got to do:

  1. Check-in on the weigh-in form and leave a link to your blog post in our Linky widget. You must do both for one entry!
  2. You can also check-in on the weigh-in form AND leave a comment telling us about your biggest non-scale victory this week!
  3. The members of the team who wins the Fitness challenge this week will also get extra entries!

Contest ends tonight at 11:59 p.m. PT, and we’ll randomly pick and announce 2 winners on tomorrow’s leaderboard post!

Good luck this week! Be sure to fill up your water bottle now!

Housekeeping

Disclosure: Melissa and I both received a Takeya glass water bottle to test out, and they provided two bottles for us to give to you! Sweet! No money exchanged hands, and our opinions are 100% our own!

  • JessiM

Sadly, no victory here….we haven’t been in one place longer than a day in the last week, plus we just travelled 30 hours by car. Boo. BUT my race is next Sunday and I hope I can get in some exercise minutes and lose this holiday gain by next weigh in.

    • Anonymous

You traveled 30 hours by car and didn’t kill each other. I’d say that is a victory!

    • Anonymous

I agree with Bari! 30 hours in a car sounds like death to me!

    • Lisa

Our 13 hour car drive was hard enough. 30 hours sounds like hell, lol. Good luck on your race- which one are you doing?

Biggest non scale victory was I stuck to my eating plan on Thanksgiving!

  • http://twitter.com/Ashes41 Ashley Sult

I got in 2 runs and 2 swims while visiting the boyfriend in Pismo Beach for Thanksgiving and the weekend following, including a 7 miler on Thanksgiving morning. :)

Biggest non scale victory was doing our own Turkey Trot and getting my run/walk in on Saturday morning and having my husband and kids and mom come with!

  • http://twitter.com/rachelsteffen Rachel Steffen

My biggest nonscale victory this past week is that I managed to not emotional eat (binge eat) like I have in years past. (My husband works CRAZY hours during the holidays and we are on the opposite side of the country from family. LONLINESS, cold/wet weather, and three small children usually get the best of me this time of year)

    • Lisa

Good for you! Hang in there- I know how hard it can be.

  • Thecinster

Well I didnt lose anything this week, but I didnt gain anything..so I guess thats good, right?

Today I am wearing size 14 jeans and a size ladies large shirt. When I started this path a year ago (almost exactly!) I was wear size 4x and 5x and couldn’t find jeans that fit at all!

I have lost 98 pounds and counting. My goal is to be healthier by the time I reach 45 (in 6 months) than I have been my entire life…and I am going to make it! =) =)

  • Lorrie

Ok when are we going to get another type fitness challenge this minutes thing is getting old and I happen to like the exercise i do have currently.

    • Lisa

The point of the minutes challenge is to get folks up and moving, AND more than they normally do. Do you have a fitness challenge in mind that you think would work for a large group, is easy to track and that everyone can participate in?

  • http://momscrazycooking.blogspot.com/ Tinahudgens

Well, I just stayed stauts quo this week. I guess it’s better then gaining a TON during Thanksgiving. I need to step up my exercise! HERE WE GO!

  • Anonymous

Biggest non-scale victory? I ran 5 miles while injured (ok-not really a victory since it screwed me). How’s this, I encouraged my husband to run 5 miles without walking. Go Mike!

I also didn’t eat any mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving.

  • Jeanne C.

Victory = getting out there and running on thanksgiving morning! It was fabulous!

Not a good weigh-in this week. Wah wah…

  • Ebyrd19

I had a better week than I expected to have w/ the holidays and traveling…I am down .44%, which isn’t a lot, but I will take it!! I had a total of 369 fitness minutes. I did NOT drink enough water!!

    • Lisa

  • Anonymous

I gained nearly 3 lbs this week. Worked out twice. In a week. Haven’t gone for a run.

My NSV – I did not go out and buy any frosting.

I need to find the desire to turn it around. I know I can do it – I just need to find the ability to WANT to do it.

  • Anonymous

Non-scale victory? I dragged my butt back to weight watchers. My inner brat went kicking and screaming, but at least it will lead to a scale victory next week!

  • Teresa H.

My biggest non-scale victory would have to be conquering the portion control during Thanksgiving. If I can do it on that one day then I should be able to do it every day.

  • Rachel M.

    Biggest non-scale victory…………..doing my first 5K! :)

  • http://plainolegrandmaislosingit.wordpress.com/ Adah

Biggest non-scale victory – taking just a few leftovers from thanksgiving and tossing the rest of them. It went against everything I was taught was a child but sometimes lessons learned need updating.

  • Becca W

Killer workout on Thanksgiving morning! First thing I did when I woke up!!!

  • Abbie L.

Biggest non-scale victory…hmm…actually drinking all that water at least half of the time. Down 2 lbs on a holiday week wasn’t too bad either :)

I didn’t go crazy with foods and desserts at Thanksgiving and i walked for an hour!

  • Anonymous

Sticking with my run training! It’s so hard to squeeze in, but I’m still working on it!

  • Mary P.

  • Kristen M

biggest non-scale victory…working out on thanksgiving day (while visiting nyc)

  • http://www.melgetsfit.com Melissa @MelGetsFit

I still can’t quite believe it, but I managed to lose 4 pounds over Thanksgiving!! On the NSV side of things, my biggest NSV this week has been not eating my way through a heartbreak. This is HUGE for me since I’m such an emotional/numbing out eater.

  • Heather A.

Biggest non-scale, setting out a plan for the holiday weekend and sticking to it!
