Sisterhood Virtual 5K & 10K – Run The 'Hood '11 | The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

On Saturday, October 22nd, we’ll lace up our shoes for another awesome Sisterhood Virtual Race!

This year, we’ll all run our own race, in our own place,

at our own pace!

Registration is now open, and we’ll begin the Couch to 5K and Couch to 10K programs this weekend! Yeah, we like to plunge in head first! It’s better to not over-think this type of thing.

Are you scratching your head and wondering what a Virtual 5K/10K is?

Run the ‘Hood is our 3rd annual virtual race at the Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans. We have an amazing online community of women and men, and because we can’t all get together for the same race, in the same city, we race together -virtually.In 2009 and earlier this year, we trained and ran an awesome 5K virtually all over the country – with all of our Sisters (and Brothers!) We’re upping the ante in 2011 and adding a 10K and 1 mile kids fun run, so people of all ages and ability can join in. AND, this year, in order to make our Virtual 5k/10K feel even more like a real race, we have race t-shirts! Everyone LOVES a race t-shirt, right? And medals? Yep, we’ve got those, too.

Who can register for the race?

ANYONE. If you’re reading this post, you’re welcome to join our race. Walkers and runners alike! Even if you’ve never run in your life. You can also invite your mother, your brother, your neighbor, your cranky co-worker, your grandma, your kids, even your grandkids. This race is for people of every age and ability – even if you think you could never complete a 5K, trust me YOU can.

How do I register and what do I get?

We’ve made it crazy-simple for you to register for the Run The ‘Hood Virtual 5K/10K and 1 mile kids fun run! You can click here to be whisked away to our amazing Eventbrite registration page. Prepare yourself for the awesome. For the low, low price of $25 for adults and $18 for children, you will get a sweet race t-shirt, a bling-y finisher’s medal, and a great swag bag. This race may be virtual, but the benefits are so, so tangible!

How do I run a virtual race?

You build your own race course, train for your race, and join all of your Sisters and Brothers Virtually on race day! It’s awesome to log your runs on Daily Mile, because your friends (and trust me, you’ll have lots of friends in this race!) can leave you love as you train!

You can use an online service like Daily Mile or Map My Run to map out your route, or just do it the old-fashioned way and jump in your car to measure out a 3.1 or 6.2 mi race course. It can be in your neighborhood, at a local park, even at the high school track. It’s totally up to you where your start and finish lines are!

Training Plans

Training starts this Saturday, August 20th! If you’re brand new, have never run before, and think OMG I don’t know if I can run for more than 1o seconds let alone 3.1 miles, you totally need to check out our How To Start Running Now series!

You can find the Couch to 5K running program through Cool Running here. The Couch to 5K  is a great program we’ve reviewed many times!

There’s also an awesome Couch to 10K training program from Cool Running! There’s a Beginner training plan, an Intermediate training plan, and an Advanced training plan!
