Spring Clean You Challenge: Week 2 Check-In

Spring Clean You Weight Loss Challenge with Shrinking Jeans and DietBetWeek 2 of the Spring Clean You Challenge is over and out already! How did you do? Are you planning your *work* and working your *plan*? Are you finding certain areas of Spring Cleaning more challenging than others?

Last week, the weekly mini challenge was to try and get 7 hours of sleep a night. How did that work out for you?  I know how hard this one can be- trust me- but I also know how much better my mood and attitude is after 7+ hours of sleep the night before.  This week, our new mini challenge is going to be to get in FIVE SERVINGS of fruits and veggies PER DAY.  Yes, FIVE SERVINGS.  All of us should be filling up our bodies with the good stuff and not that crappy, processed stuff found on the inner aisles of a grocery store (guilty over here!).  Veggies fill you up, fruit sugars are broken down easily by your body and you know what- it’s time we all ate what we are supposed to eat….right?!  So put down the junk and pick up the good stuff.

What constitutes a serving of fruits and veggies?  I asked my friends at www.about.com and got this answer:

Answer: The United States Department of Agriculture sets a serving size for fruit or vegetables to be equal to about one-half cup. Greens like spinach and lettuce have a serving size equal to one full cup. One serving of sliced fruit is equal to one-half cup; however a single piece of fruit, such as an apple or an orange counts as one serving. How did the USDA decide that one-half cup is a serving size? The decision was based on the portion sizes that people typically eat, ease of use and nutritional content of fruits and vegetables.

Didn’t do so well on the sleep challenge as I was traveling for most of last week. The last couple of weeks I have been fluctuating but still on the downward turn. Now that I am back on a routine of eating, exercising and water consumption hoping for a better week this week. This weeks challenge is a great one. One of our green smoothies and we will reach this goal. Smoothies are what I missed the most when traveling. http://finallygoingtodothis.wordpress.com

Blech- time of the month jacked up my weight, but I’ve worked hard so fingers crossed I will see pay off next week. Down another .4lb this week. But still 4.2 lbs to get to my diet bet goal – yikes!

I didn’t lose any pounds, but one reason might be that I had to go to my sister’s birthday party. I had a small piece of cake, but still.

Sleep challenge was a challenge but I was successful 5 out of 7 days. Loss was .6 so with the move this is a good thing! No gain is a great accomplishment and I’m within 3 pounds of being at my lowest weight in 10 years!

Did well with the sleep challenge most nights and am feeling much more rested this week! Getting a little frustrated with weight the past week. I’m right on the edge of the 130’s (which I haven’t seen since my first baby was born) but the scale just seems to want to bounce around between 140-141!! Making sure I’m drinking lots of water and going to kick up my exercise this week to see if that helps! And eat my fruits & veggies!

The first week or so was tough, didn’t lose any weight. Today, I am down 4lbs! only 4 more to go for the Dietbet challenge!! I feel like I am starting to get this down. The MyFitnessPal app has been the best thing to happen to me. I record everything in it and I can see where I am falling short vs where I am making great strides. I am usually a 7-10+ hour a night sleeper, so the 7hr challenge was cake for me (no pun intended). I have been drinking about 6+ cups of water a day (just shy of the half-my-body-weight-in-ounces challenge). And lately I’ve been able to stay under my calorie goal and am NOT hungry at the end of the day! Feeling energized and contemplating signing up for the Warrior Dash! :)

Ugh! I am bouncing up and down!! I am over my start weight but am working out all the time! I’m sleeping almost 7 hour a night most nights, I stay within my calories or just a bit over with healthy food, I’m training for my next 10K race and drink at least half my body weight in water everyday! I have an active job and workout on top but I am not getting anywhere!!!!! Ahhhhh! My body just loves the weight I am I guess!:( I’m gonna keep trudging and hopefully this has to do with it being the week before and of that special time of month!!:( GGGRRRRR!

The 7 hours a night has been somewhat of a challenge for me. I have a lot of trouble falling asleep and wake up throughout the night. Am losing 1-3 pounds a week though so I guess I am doing something right. I am down 7 pounds since the challenge began with a total loss of 20 pounds. Now to get to work on the other 60 or so I need to lose.

Had to laugh at the serving sizes. According to that, I will have all 5 of my servings and then some just with my morning smoothie. This mini challenge will be easy. I will fit in a few more servings throughout the day though as fruits and veggies just in the morning will not work.
