The New Old Guidelines
Did you all know that the USDA put out new Dietary Guidelines this week? There’s a lot of information in the report about specific calorie needs, activity needs, and just lots and lots of info.
But you know what? The USDA was nice enough to put out a little one page list of suggestions for the Every (Wo)Man.
And so I present to you the USDA “Selected Messages for Consumers”…
Take action on the Dietary Guidelines by making changes in these three areas. Choose steps that work for you and start today.
Balancing Calories
• Enjoy your food, but eat less.
• Avoid oversized portions.Foods to Increase
• Make half your plate fruits and vegetables.
• Switch to fat-free or low-fat (1%) milk.Foods to Reduce
• Compare sodium in foods like soup, bread, and frozen meals — and choose the foods with lower numbers.
• Drink water instead of sugary drinks.
Sounds pretty simple, right? Is there anything in there that surprises that you didn’t already know about?
Honestly, I hope the answer is no. These things that they are telling us are the basis of what you’ve known since the day you decided to start your weight loss journey.
So what are you waiting for?
How many of you can say that you truly ENJOY your food and aren’t just eating it because you’re “supposed to”?
How many of you avoid the cheeseburger/enchilada/french fries/beer/wine/(insert vice here) when push comes to shove?
How many of you have actually kicked that pop/soda/cola habit?
So what are you waiting for?
What one small change are you going to make today? Or this week? Or this month?
If you would like to read the report, you can find the documents at Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010.
