VTNT Diary, Week 8 – The Shrinking Jeans of Christy

WOW, week EIGHT. That means I’m almost halfway through our training for the San Diego Rock N Roll 1/2 Marathon on June 6, 2010.

If you didn’t read last week’s VTNT Diary, it turns out that “run in the hills” made the tendon in my heel all kinds of mad, so they flared up causing a burn that had me plunging my whole foot into buckets of ice. Ouch.

So the short of it is:

  • I have tendinitis.
  • I saw a sports med doctor last Wednesday
  • He told me to do heat/ice therapy for a week
  • And that I could run over the weekend if it was feeling better
  • I ran yesterday!
  • Coach Joe told me to run 4 miles
  • I ran 6.25 because it felt amazing
  • My foot held up great!
  • I am back in the game!
  • I still need to be careful, because it can flare up again…
  • But I’m running again!
  • WOOT!

So my mileage for this week is 6.25. I took it nice and slow and per the doctor’s orders, I found somewhere with no hills to run. Hills are not good for tendons. Also, the shoes I was wearing? They sucked. Totally wrong for me. So I’m running in the new shoes I got from Fitbloggin’. New Balance was once of the sponsors, and gave me new shoes – Stability Runners. I am in love. More on the shoes later.

Watch out San Diego, here I come!!
