Lots of us have negative body images. I’m sure a lot of us have called ourselves fat, hefty, fluffy, porky, or even worse. We’ve all complained that our thighs are too big, our butt is too dimply, our arms are too saggy, and our stomach is too flabby.
The things is you don’t see yourself the way everyone else sees you. You see yourself from within, and on the inside you might be feeling all of those things. Others see you from the outside, in a more realistic light, and a lot of the flaws you *think* you have aren’t really as bad as you think, if they exist at all.
Would you tell your best friend she’s fat? Would you tell her that her thighs are WAY too big, or that she should never be seen in public in a swimsuit? Of course you wouldn’t. First, it’s probably not true, and second you’d never in a million years want to hurt her feelings by saying something so terrible. You probably tell your BFF she looks nice in red, or that her shirt is really flattering, or that those heels do wonders for her calves. Right?
So why wouldn’t you say those kinds of things to yourself? Why would you tear yourself down with negative self-talk?
You need to be kind to yourself, too. In this journey to being fit and healthy, it’s not all about the outside, it’s about the inside, too. It’s about your mind and your heart and loving yourself.
So where am I going with this? Well, this week’s mini-challenge is this:
Everyday this week, Monday through Friday, I want you to SAY or DO 3 positive things for yourself. That would be 3 things a day x 5 days. WHAT? Do you think it’s impossible to find 15 things? Well, it’s not. It could be as simple as finding something you like about yourself each day – physical or not, or doing something nice for yourself.
Here, I’ll share my 3 things for today with you.
- Today I’m going to wear makeup. During the summer, I rarely put it on, because it’s summer and I just don’t feel like it (okay, who am I kidding, I don’t really wear it much in the fall or winter or spring either!). I always feel better about myself when I have a little make up on, so today I’m going to wear some!
- Today I’m going to spritz on some perfume. I mean, doesn’t smelling good make you feel better? Don’t worry, I plan to bathe too, so it’s not like I’ll be covering up yesterday’s stink or anything 😛
- Today while I’m out site-seeing and shopping with Melissa and Lisa, I will buy something for myself. It won’t be expensive or extravagant, but it will be only for me. Not for my kids or my house or my husband. For me.
So there you have it. This week’s challenge isn’t going to be simple like drinking a shit ton of water everyday, even though you should totally be doing that. It’s going to take some thought and some effort, but you’re worth it. YOU ARE WORTH IT. So do it!
