Last weekend, Christie O. and I attended the Fitbloggin’ conference in Baltimore. If you’re not familiar with it, Fitbloggin’ is an amazing community of health/fitness/life bloggers who get together to talk about all things health/fitness/life/blog related. If you’re at all interested in reading about the conference, they have post  link up of recaps. There’s over 100 so far so pick and choose a few to get an idea of what goes on there. They also posted live blogs from the conference sessions if you weren’t able to make it.

Anyway, going to the conference is an amazing experience. One of the sessions I attended was called Self Acceptance and Weight Loss. It was an open forum that gave the attendees an opportunity to step up to a microphone and discuss what they were succeeding with or struggling with in terms of Self Acceptance.

Now, I have no problem talking and being in front of people (usually), so you know I was one of the people up there talking. But I could tell for some people it was a struggle. Then there were those that sat quietly in their chairs, nodding their head in agreement or shaking their head in disagreement or with tears openly running down their face.

All of those people, whether they actually got in front of a microphone or not, were all part of that discussion.

Sometimes “stepping up to the mike” doesn’t involve the actual physical feat of standing in front of a microphone to speak publicly. Sometimes, it can mean nodding your head in agreement. Sometimes it can mean sitting next to a friend and holding their hand while they cry.

Shoot, sometimes it can mean SHOWING UP.

We all have our different (or not so different) stories to tell. We draw support from those around us when we show up to talk about it or to listen…really listen…to others as they talk about it.

So, what story are you going to tell today? How will you step up to the mike?
