Simple Workouts You Can Do at Home | The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans LLC

Sometimes when it’s cold, dreary, and yucky out we need a little extra push to push us to workout. I know when it’s cloudy and cold all I feel like doing is laying around on the couch with a blanket and a book, or with the remote in hand. The east coast of America is getting slammed with a blizzard and I know there are only so many hours of Netflix a girl can watch before going stir crazy! I’m going to help you get through this blizzard by offering some great workouts that you can do right there in the middle of your living room. No need to leave the house! Pajamas optional, but you might want to strap the “girls” down for optimal comfort!

One of my favorite at home warm-ups is to “run in place” for 5-10 minutes! I don’t normally run, but starting a workout with running in place is a great way to warm up your legs and get your heart pumping. After this warm-up, you can move on to any of these easy, at-home workouts.

If you combine several of the monthly fitness calendar workouts, I promise you will work up a great sweat! You can choose from abs, arms, and legs and even mix several of them up for a great thirty-minute workout!

We used to feature a great workout on Tuesday nights to do during the commercial breaks of The Biggest Loser – called Tworkouts – before twerking was a thing! We followed @shrinkingjeans on Twitter and April would tell us what exercises to do during the commercial breaks!

Here’s an example of our Tworkouts:

  • 2 min run in place (while holding weights); 1 min buttkicks (while holding weights)
  • 40 squats with tricep kickbacks
  • 50 jabs (with light weights); focus on form and don’t snap your joints!
  • 10 burpees; 1 min jumping jacks
  • Push-ups, as many as you can do for 3 minutes
  • Plank hold, 60 seconds (or more)

If you don’t have weights at home you could get some cans of veggies or a couple of water bottles and do the moves while holding them!

Another of my favorite things to do when the weather is not cooperating is to turn up some really good music and move my body (others call it dancing, but I don’t really dance, so it’s more like shaking my booty)! I also have a WiiFit Just Dance workout that is a lot of fun! I’m very uncoordinated, so my movements rarely match the movements of the game, but I have a lot of fun and I’m burning calories and working up a sweat at the same time!

If you have Amazon Prime (there’s a free 30-day trial!), I found a great beginner level Kickboxing video that is fun and doesn’t require weights! The vocals on the video are rather cheesy, but the workout makes you sweat!

If you want to pull up YouTube instead of Amazon, you could do this 30-minute bootcamp workout!

Here’s a HITT workout that doesn’t require any equipment, either – you can burn up to 800 calories.

As you can see, there are a ton of great options for simple workouts you can do from the comfort of your own home. Don’t let the nasty weather be your excuse to lose sight of your fitness goals!

xoxoxo,

Ann
