5 Ways to Enjoy a Spring Day

0

It finally seems the winter has broken and spring is upon us! Gone are the days of staring longingly outside the window thinking of fresh air or flipping through your pictures from last summer. Spring means getting outside and enjoying the sun. It’s also a friendly reminder that shorts season is right around the corner. Just getting off the couch or out from behind that desk is a great way to work towards your goals. Remember that a healthy lifestyle is key and staying in motion, even if you aren’t working out per say, is important. Here are five of my absolute favorite ways to get out and enjoy a spring day.

  1. Go For A Hike

This is at the top of the because it is my absolute favorite way to get some blood pumping and enjoy the weather at once. Hiking is great because it almost always entails climbing up some type of mountain, navigating through roots and walking on uneven ground. In other words, it’s great for your tush and calves. My 6 month old baby goes wherever I go currently so I hike with other moms I find through an online community called Hike It Baby. If you are a mom I highly recommend this group!

  1. Clean Up Your Yard

After fall and winter I’m sure your yard looks just like mine – that is to say, it is a hot mess! Nothing quite compares to soaking up some vitamin D while giving your lawn a facelift. Break out that rake, broom and spade and get to cleaning up. We are getting close to prime planting season and if you want to be ahead of the curve, now is the time. Plus all that raking, digging and weed pulling will be sure to have you sweating.

  1. Explore On Foot

Even if you were born and raised in your town there is always something new to discover. Parking and walking around will lend itself to new sights, smells and conversations that you just can’t experience when driving through. Take an hour or two to explore. Who knows what you may find or who you may meet! Worst case scenario, you know your town a little better and burnt some calories while doing it.

  1. Get To Your Local Park

Local parks are the promised land for outdoor fun. Whether it is goofing off on a playground with your kids, playing basketball with friends, walking your dog through the trails or running through a water feature, there is always something for someone. According to Merriam Webster a park is “a piece of public land in or near a city that is kept free of houses and other buildings and can be used for pleasure and exercise.” That’s right guys. Pleasure AND exercise! Get to it!

  1. Find A Local “Pick-Your-Own”

Pick your butt up off the couch and head to the local pick-your-own fruit patch! Be it apples, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries… whatever the fruit, there is good fun and fresh deliciousness at stake. All the walking and squatting will have you toning some muscles without realizing it and once you get home you can bake some (diet friendly!) treats with your findings or just enjoy them raw.
